There are so many places to draw inspiration as an artist, from the things we see, hear, feel, experience, or simply witness in everyday life: living, loving, surviving, struggling. Music has always been a way for me to express and clarify what I feel, think or imagine. The songs I write come from nowhere and once I have sung them they disappear again into nowhere. But there is something that remains in each of us after hearing a song that resonates with us.
Music expresses what language fails to express and I have heard songs that make me realize I am not alone in what I have been through. Sometimes I can listen to a song and it will make me cry, other times it will make me laugh, other times it will make me think and / or question, but I think that’s what really good art/music should do.
Music has the ability to unite. It crosses all boundaries. It has no borders, no religion, no race. It is universal. It is mysterious, ethereal and the closest thing to the divine after prayer and meditation. “Music is well said to be the speech of Angels; in fact, nothing among the utterances allowed to man is felt to be so divine. It brings us near to the infinite.” Thomas Carlyle.
